Day One
Where I am now.
We all have to start somewhere.
So maybe you talk to God every day. Maybe you don’t. Some days are better than others, yea? Some days it seems like we can feel His Presence so palpably, and others well . . . not so much.
1. Why this, why now
I remember what talking to God felt like when I was growing up as a pastor’s daughter in Peru—I loved Him and was honest with Him when I talked to Him. I remember what talking to Him was like when I was in my early twenties and wanting to have all of these life experiences on my own outside of Him. I can still perceive the change that I experienced in my prayer life while I was at Bible college and how faith rose up on the inside of me that I could pray according to the Word of God and that He heard me. As I talk with friends and young people in my church and in my city, I realize that a lot of Christians today don’t actually know how to pray. We know it’s important to the health of our spiritual lives and we desire to, but sometimes, we just lack knowledge or confidence on how to do it. I actually don’t have all the answers. But the amazing thing about prayer is that as long as it’s honest and based on the Word of God, it it powerful. And we have the Holy Spirit to help us how to pray. I have experienced the power of God in my prayer life in a completely different way since starting to pray the Word of God, in a spirit of faith, being led by the Spirit on what to say and how to say it. I know His power is at work in my prayers now and I know He hears me, but I also know I hear Him now. That has been one of the greatest joys for me from the past few years—growing in the certainty and confidence that I do hear God. And I believe this is something accessible to every born again believer.
2. Communion with Him transforms us.
If you are hungry for more of God but feel hollow or without direction in your prayer life, this is for you. If you aren’t sure that you can listen to the voice of God, this is for you. As I said, I don’t have all the answers; but I do have the Word of God and what He has taught me through trial and error the last 3.5 years since submitting my whole life to the Kingship of the Lord Jesus. One of my prayers in 2025 has actually been to grow in listening prayer. I love this quote by my favorite author C.S. Lewis : "I pray because I can't help myself. I pray because I'm helpless. I pray because the need flows out of me all the time, waking and sleeping. It doesn't change God, it changes me."
At the end of the day, prayer is fellowship, communion, with God and I believe it is the most transformational place a human can be. I live in Peru, and we get people coming here from all over the world in search of spiritual experiences with ayahuasca (a psychedelic drink if you are a Christian and don’t know what that is hehe) or by going to the sacred valley outside of Cuzco to connect with ancient traditions and mother earth. People all over the world—looking for spiritual experiences to change them, that will give them a different perspective. Well, let me tell you— nothing changes you like prayer. Honest, full of faith, scriptural prayer changes you. And I believe there are people out there so hungry for more of God, so desiring to go deeper with Him, and learning how to pray with the power of the Word of God will take us places in the Spirit not just for our own sakes, but for the sake of our world, our communities, and our generation. Jesus is coming back soon and we get to be part of His bride being washed and ready, with oil burning in her lamp. The Lord is up to something, and I think it’s time His bride join Him. In communion and in making kingdom deals with the authority He’s given us in the name of Jesus.
3. What to expect :)
You will find a new post here every Wednesday evening! It’s going to be me talking to God— real and raw Bri. I believe you will be enriched by seeing communication with God modeled. God is communicating to us all the time, through a million different avenues, but you and I only need one communication to know that He sees us and loves us. I believe as you learn to bring your honest words to Him in faith, you will begin to see how He is speaking to you too. Prayer is talking on both sides—sharing our hearts, wild and raw, before Him and submitting our souls so we can listen to what He is saying.
Right now, everything I post will be free! I want these next few months to be a blessing to you.
Later on, I may add some more specific content for paid subscribers and you can decide to get that! Yay!
4. Subscribe!
This is me praying at my church in Arequipa, Peru, hehe. I thought it would be kinda fun and silly to put this picture here since I will be talking to God on this substack, believing it is for your benefit. So here goes being really transparent haha! If you ever wanted to be a fly on a wall to overhear a conversation, welcome haha! I believe this space will encourage you, inspire you, and lead you in your own prayer life and communion with the Lord. I pray that His Holy Spirit would meet you in these posts and that His anointing would break the yoke. Deeper intimacy in the name of Jesus!
